Last weekend I was graced with the presence of my 4 year old nephew and 2 year old niece. Prior to their arrival at my house, I looked at my husband and said ‘I need to figure out some crafts to keep them busy’. I love those little munchkins; however, I work with children on a daily basis and they can be a handful if you don’t prepare!
Amongst other things (including marble painting with shaving cream), we made pumpkin pie slime. Y’all! This stuff smells so good that you have to watch how close it gets to the kids’ mouths, it gets you in the mood for the season, it’s a great way to teach the kids description words, and best of all-it keeps them busy!
Pumpkin Pie Slime:
- mix together: 2 cups of school glue, 5 drops each of red and yellow food coloring, 2 tbsp pumpkin pie spice, 2 tbsp vanilla extract, and 1 1/2 cups hot water
- mix together: 3/4 tsp borax and 1 1/2 cups hot water
- combine both mixtures (drain residual liquid)
- store in air-tight container (fridge is best) for up to one week of playtime
I went ahead and let my nephew throw these fun edible eyeball cake sprinkles in the slime…& though I still think it’s a fun idea to hide things in it…use the real googly eyes! The black on the ones I used immediately melted and started to stain the slime and his fingers (aunt fail). We had so much fun though and I hope this activity brings fun and joy to you and your little ones this season!
If you have specific questions about how to make the slime, if you want to know how I did that awesome marble art with the shaving cream, if you have fun activities to share of your own, or if you just want to say hi-just comment below.
Happy October y’all!
