Anyone else love a good messy bun? I’ll be completely honest, I’m sure this look is ‘so last season’, but for a mom of a hair-pulling babe…it’s a MUST for me!
I’m so over looking like a slob, so strategic updos have been added to my bag of hair tricks lately. From this dressy messy bun to braids…anything to show that some effort was used, makes me a tad less embarrassed when I walk out of the house. Today I’ll do my best to talk you through this look and if you have any questions feel free to comment below.
- create the traditional loop bun-you know, where you act like you’re creating a ponytail but don’t pull the hair through all the way the last time. *tip: keep the loop part smaller so you have a lot of your ends to wrap in the next step
- grab the ends of your hair and wrap them around the elastic. secure with bobby pins.
- start messing up the look. I start by loosening the hair near my face and work my way back…tugging lightly and grabbing specific pieces with my fingertips.
- hairspray using a flexible hold formula. *tip: continue messing it up with your fingers after you hairspray to ensure the ‘messy’ effect is still apparent
Here’s the finished product. I really enjoy this option when I’m in a hurry, on that dreaded ‘second day hair’ day, and when Callie is feeling extra handsy (lol).
