A few months ago, I was fresh off the pregnancy train and in serious need of some TLC! My hormones were (and still are) going crazy and washing my face alone was just not cutting it! I was breaking out in places on my face that I never had before and becoming very frustrated. After 9 months of not feeling ‘pretty’, I was so ready to feel like my old self again! I decided it was time to add an extra step to my skincare routine that would hopefully add a little life back into my skin. I had heard about microderm treatments, but was a little hesitant as to how my sensitive skin would react. Being slightly afraid of a full session at the spa, I figured an at-home option would be easier for me to see if I liked it. After taking some time to really test out the PMD Personal Microderm, I want to share with you all my thoughts:
Design: The classic version of the device comes in four colors: pink, blue, grey, and teal. The kit includes: microderm wand, wide and narrow cap, 3 different sets of abrasion disks, and a power cord. The wand is lightweight and easy-to-hold and comfortable for precision during use. The color options make it easy to personalize for your own style.
How-To: The product is easy to set up, use, and clean. To begin: pick a cap size, pick an abrasion disk (differing in how course of an abrasive you want to use), plug it in, and turn it on. The company recommends testing a small area of skin first, in order to determine which abrasive disk suits you best. I have very sensitive skin, so if I’m working on my face, I use the disk that is least abrasive. Always clean your skin before the treatment to remove oil/dirt/product. Using your free hand to pull your skin tight, slowly drag the wand across the surface of the skin. Don’t hover over one area because you can irritate your skin that way.
Uses: Traditional use for the microderm device is for the face. It aids in removing dead skin that may clog pores and cause breakouts. However, I found that I also enjoyed using the wide cap and more abrasive disk to treat rough, dry areas on the body (e.g., ankles, knees, elbows). After the swelling went down from pregnancy, my skin was so dry and really needed a good exfoliation. The PMD Personal Microderm helped so much! I especially found that using it before self-tanner completely put an end to the annoying ‘orange areas’. Can I get an Amen!!
Cost: $159.99 at most locations
Additional: After use, your skin will be slightly red. This is expected, because you are provided a serious exfoliation treatment. To calm your skin and increase hydration at the surface of your face, PMD Recovery Masks are great! I love face masks, especially the cloth ones that have become widely popular the past few years. The masks are soothing and hydrating and specifically formulated to be used with the microderm device.
I truly enjoyed getting to test this product y’all! As I said before, I was nervous of how my sensitive skin would react, but it barely irritated it at all. The little bit of redness that develops disappears within minutes after treatment; however, the results last a few days (& get better if used over time). After use, your skin immediately feels smooth and soft. I really did notice a reduction in blackheads and pore size too.
