Today I’m talking about a company that I have been studying for a while now. It’s called Spoonflower and I just love what they have to offer!
About six months ago I stumbled upon Spoonflower and took interest immediately. You can see the appeal, I mean designing your own fabrics, wallpapers, and giftwrap has a nice ring to it. The market is pretty chalk full of amazing surface pattern designers, like Emily Sanford (my absolute favorite). Yet, sometimes you are seeking something very specific…something you have painted in your mind. When that happens, you now know where to make that vision a reality!
Here’s how it works:
Click the ‘spoonflower’ link above and create an account on the homepage.
Once you have an account you may begin uploading digital and/or scanned designs from your computer, confirm copyrights, and set the pattern style of preference (e.g., basic, half-drop, half-brick, center, or mirror). Here are some I’ve played around with (warning: addiction possible!):
In order for you/others to purchase one of your designs, you must buy a sample/8’x8′ swatch, which acts as your ‘proof’. Once receiving your sample, log back on and hit ‘confirm proof’. Now you’re ready to purchase and start creating pillows, baby clothes/accessories, napkins, table runners/cloths, headbands, etc. Also, designers get a discount on their own fabric plus they receive 10% of every purchase made of their designs-win win!
Here’s my first sample (which I’m seriously considering making a bow out of for my niece due in November–I’m thinking next post idea!):
I hope y’all enjoyed learning about this company. If you have any questions, I’d love to answer them! Shoot me an email or comment below so everyone else can see.
Also, if you are interested in my dandelion-inspired design called ‘windblown look‘, you can purchase it through Spoonflower under designer name: samanthalanier.
Until next time,
